Surgical treatment of Parkinson´s in Cuba

1. All patients, in order to be allowed to these surgical treatments, are selected based on the following criteria: status of the disease, symptoms of invalidity, reaction to the medication treatments, age, etc.. All cases are first evaluated by the interdisciplinary team of the Institute of Neurology to check the patient’s aptitude to the treatment. After this the patient will follow a week of check ups to decide the most appropriate therapeutic strategy.
2. The first week of evaluation : The price for the first week , for check ups, diagnostic confirmation, definition of the therapeutic strategy, pre-operative checks, mounts up to 3616 usd which includes apart from all necessary medical work also lodging, 3 meals a day, transfers in and out from the airport and round the clock attention of a doctor and a nurse. On top you count 43 usd per day for lodging and 3 meals and transfers for a companion.
3. Surgical possibilities :
   a. Talamotomy VIM – Super selective Palidotomy
   b. Selective sub talamotomy from the side of the back

One must take into account that after surgical treatment the patient must stay for a period 28 days in the clinic to receive neuro-rehabilitation treatment which will be personalized, intensive and concentrated on multiple factors. Price of this cycle is 6.700 usd for the patient and 1204 usd for the companion (based on lodging, 3 meals a day and transfer in-out)
